Pen pal services are a first for me. Not that I haven't considered using them in the past, I have. Then, however, with several years remaining felt hesitant. Not confident of what kind of friend I could be to others or that establishing new friendship under less than ideal circumstances was something I wanted to chance; despite the loneliness, isolation felt, or intense desire (even need) to connect with people...with anything real and of substance. There was also an anxiety of a person's first impression of me being that of incarceration.

Now with 13 months remaining and several years of contemplation decided there was no better time than now to reach out and meet new people. To develop real, positive, and meaningful friendships. Those with substance that will extend beyond this time. I miss and desire that closeness between people, the intimacy shared in special friendships, and feeling like you belong.

Here...now, I couldn't possibly describe who I am, my character, etc...People are more complicated than that. Even if I did there is no way of knowing if anything I said were true or to just get a response. It's not any different than in our personal lives. The only true way to ever know anyone is by investing the time to do so, opening of yourself, trusting the other to do the same, believing that a person's true character will always reveal itself. What I will tell you...prison does not, nor will it ever, define who I am.

I hope to have revealed part of that character with my profile, which I hope has intrigued you enough to respond. and open to learning about the man behind these words, beginning what could hopefully become a special and fulfilling friendship for us both.
