Who do I receive mail from?  The prisoners on our site receive mail from people around the world who have Internet access. You will not receive mail from other prisoners.  

How does email forwarding work? Each week the email messages received over the preceding week are downloaded and mailed. It is up to you to write the pen pal back directly if you wish to correspond with them. The street address or po box of your pen pal will always be provided with the email message. You do not need to provide stamps or SASEs for this service and there is no extra charge for email forwarding.  

What kind of response rate do you have? We receive over (four) 4 times the number of email messages annually as we have prisoners on our site. Although we cannot make any guarantees about responses, the majority of customers on our site receive mail. 

What can I do to increase my response rate?
* Send at least one smiling (teeth showing) photo of yourself. The more smiling photos, the better.  
* Don’t be restrictive in terms of who you want to write to or the type of relationship you seek. Ads that are open to anyone for any reason get the most mail.  
* Don’t come on too strong. A prisoner pen pal ad is not like a personal ad placed by people in the free world. You should seek friendship, not a soulmate, at least in the beginning.  More can always develop later after you get to know someone.

Is a photo required?  No, but the response rate is better with a photo.

Can you get my photo from the DOC website? If your photo is available on the state’s DOC website then yes we can. 

Can you take my photo from another website? With your permission, your photo(s) and any other part of your advertisement can be taken from another website. 


Is there a limit to the number of photos or words I can have on my ad? There is no limit. You can have as many photos and words on your ad as you like. The cost for images and words over the provided amount for the webpage, or for images and words published after the time of initial publication, is $10 per scanned image (photo, artwork, document, etc.) and $5 per each 50 words. 

Can I put an alternate email address on my ad (e.g. you@yahoo.com)? Yes. 

I have no money. Will you list me free of charge? Under no circumstances will a prisoner be listed free of charge or at a discount. Please do not ask. 

What forms of payment do you accept?  Checks/Money Orders: We accept personal checks, institution checks, traveler’s checks, and money orders. NOTICE: When paying with personal check there a 2-week waiting period before your page will be published and there is a $20 NSF fee for returned check. Your web page will be suspended until payment in full is received plus fee. Visa/MasterCard/AMEX/Discover/PayPal: We accept all major credit cards as well as PayPal.  To pay by these methods, you will need to have someone on the outside go to our website to pay online.  Stamps: We accept new, unused stamps.  When paying with stamps, please send as many whole books and whole sheets, and as few loose stamps as possible. Do not put tape on stamps. The rate for paying with .44 or Forever Stamps is #15 new, unused stamps for each $5. Easy formula for calculating payment with stamps: DOLLARS X 3 = NUMBER OF STAMPS. For example, a Basic Webpage at $49 would cost #147 stamps (49 x 3 = 147). 

Can I make copies of your application for other prisoners who want to join?  Absolutely!
